Micellar water is a water-based cleanser usually applied with a cotton pad. Its name refers to micelles: small aggregates of surfactant molecules in water, not individual molecules.
How micelles help with cleansing
IUPAC defines micelles as aggregates of surfactants in solution. The surfactant molecules have water-compatible and oil-compatible parts. Their arrangement helps the formula interact with oily material while remaining water-based.
Wiping transfers loosened material to the pad. Micellar water therefore uses surfactants, just as other cleansing formats can; a lack of visible lather does not mean a lack of cleansing ingredients. How much makeup a bottle removes depends on the complete formula and its directions.
Do you rinse it off?
Read the bottle’s directions first. Some micellar waters are intended to be wiped off without rinsing; other products or personal preferences may call for water afterwards. Neither the word micellar nor the time of day creates a universal rule.
It can be your only cleansing step when it removes what you need to remove and suits your skin. A second cleanser is an option, not a requirement. For waterproof makeup or long-wear sunscreen, check that your chosen remover is intended for it rather than assume every micellar formula performs identically.

Our Micellar Cleansing Water, 200ml, contains Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside and Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, alongside hyaluronic acid, camomile and linden flower extract. It has a fresh, meadow-like scent. It contains Parfum, so it isn’t fragrance-free. It suits normal, dry and oily skin.

Using it without overcomplicating the routine
Follow the application directions, use enough product to moisten the pad and wipe gently. Repeated rubbing adds friction; it is not a reason to keep going until your skin feels stripped.
