Three steps: cleanse, treat, moisturise. That’s the whole ritual, and it’s deliberate. Most brands answer “how many products should someone buy” by adding more. We answered it by stopping at three, and this is the reasoning behind it.
We built CapyOnsen after living the opposite: a shelf of half-used bottles, most nights ending with just water and good intentions. A twelve-step routine looks good in a flat-lay photo and falls apart on a Tuesday night. The products aren’t the problem. Nobody finishes something that long often enough to find out if it works.
Every extra step is another decision, another product to remember in sequence, another chance two actives don’t get along.
Why three, not more
An evening routine has three real jobs. Remove what built up on your skin during the day, give it a proper hydration boost, and seal that hydration in before you sleep. Cleanse, treat, moisturise.
Past that point, extra steps solve narrower, optional problems. So we kept the launch ritual at three instead of padding it out for a longer product page.
The three steps
The Oil-to-Milk Cleanser opens it. It’s an oil that dissolves makeup, SPF and the day’s buildup, then turns milky and rinses clean the moment water hits it, without the residue a straight oil cleanser can leave. It’s COSMOS Organic certified, formulated for sensitive skin and dermatologically tested, with camomile, sea buckthorn and cloudberry extracts in a sunflower-oil base.
Next comes the Barrier Serum, built around double hydration: Sodium PCA and hyaluronic acid at two molecular weights, hydrating at the surface and a little deeper, with aloe leaf juice, sage and white tea extract for a calming feel. It’s COSMOS Natural certified.
We’re upfront that it’s about hydration, not lipid replacement. “Barrier serum” gets used loosely across the industry, and we’d rather you know exactly what ours does than let the name do the talking.
The Sensitive Skin Moisturiser closes it: fragrance-free, COSMOS Organic, built to calm redness-prone skin. Sodium PCA, aloe leaf juice, jojoba oil and hyaluronic acid seal in the hydration from step two. It’s made for daily use, morning and night.
Order matters
Cleansing first means the serum lands on clean skin, not the day’s residue. Applying it while skin is still damp helps the humectants pull in more water than they would on dry skin. Moisturising last seals that hydration in so it doesn’t evaporate.
Reshuffle the order and you’re not doing the same ritual with fewer steps. You’re doing a weaker version of it.
It’s built for sensitive or reactive skin, and for people who’d rather have three products that each earn their place than twelve that mostly don’t. It isn’t built for an aggressive, multi-active anti-ageing protocol. That’s a different goal, and we’d rather say so than pretend three gentle, hydration-focused products are something else.
We had formulas on the table for a toner, an eye cream and a weekly exfoliant, and left all three out on purpose. They’re fine ideas, but optional extras for most people, not nightly essentials. Anything past the core three should be a deliberate addition, not a default nobody questioned.
The ninety-second version
Cleanse. Treat. Moisturise. About ninety seconds, most nights. No twelve-step protocol, no drawer of half-used serums. Two of the three, the cleanser and the moisturiser, are in stock now if you’d rather start today.
Evenings are about winding down; mornings are a different problem. If yours could use a boost, our sister brand CapyFuel makes the energising counterpart to this same routine-first thinking.
Start with whichever part your skin needs first from the ritual, or go straight to the cleanser if you’re not sure where to begin. Once the steps are sorted, the order matters almost as much, and our guide to what order to apply skincare, and why it matters lays it out for morning and night.
