For a hydrating toner, we would look for moisture-holding ingredients and a formula your skin gets on with. Our Hydrating Toner combines those ingredients with natural certification and no added fragrance. That is its clearest buying reason.
The watchouts here are more specific than a cheap or expensive label: perfume if you react to fragrance, ethanol if it leaves your skin dry, and a premium price without the features you wanted. Useful hydration ingredients appear at several prices.

Toner ingredients: the good points and watchouts
CapyOnsen Hydrating Toner
Our pick for certified natural hydration with no added fragrance.
Good ingredients
- Glycerin, sodium PCA and hyaluronic acid, listed as sodium hyaluronate, help draw and hold moisture. Rose flower water forms part of the base.
- The formula is vegan and certified natural. The manufacturer states no added fragrance, and neither Parfum nor ethanol appears in the checked list.
Potential drawbacks
- Rose water gives a light herbal, floral note, so no added fragrance does not promise no scent. Check familiar plant ingredients if you already know you react to them.
- Benzyl alcohol is present for preservation. It is a different ingredient from ethanol; the name should not be read as evidence that this is an ethanol-based toner.
Balea Pflegend
An inexpensive moisture-supporting toner if perfume is acceptable to you.
Good ingredients
alverde Wildrose
A budget certified natural option, with an alcohol watchout for dry skin.
Good ingredients
- Glycerin helps hold moisture. Rose water is second on the ingredient list, and the page shows NATRUE certification.
- The page states vegan and no perfume. That can be a useful combination at a low price.
Potential drawbacks
- Alcohol is third on the checked list. Ethanol-containing leave-on care can be drying, so we would pass if your skin already finds alcohol toners uncomfortable.
- Citronellol, a named fragrance allergen, is listed despite the no-perfume statement. Check it if you have a known fragrance allergy.
Caudalie Vinoclean Toner
A rose-water alternative with hydration ingredients and no Parfum in the checked list.
Good ingredients
- Butylene glycol helps hold moisture; rose flower water is also listed. The brand describes an alcohol-free formula and a rose scent.
- The brand states 99% natural-origin ingredients. The checked formula has no Parfum entry.
Potential drawbacks
- No finished-formula natural certification is named on the checked page. If independent natural certification is your reason for paying more, a percentage alone does not provide it.
- Rose scent remains relevant if you are looking for care with no noticeable smell. No Parfum on a list does not promise a scentless experience.
Dermalogica Multi-Active
Consider it for a hydrating spray; pass if avoiding scented oils is the priority.
Good ingredients
- Butylene glycol and sodium PCA support hydration. PEG-12 dimethicone helps the formula mix and spread.
- The spray format is a practical distinction if you want a mist you can use after cleansing.
Potential drawbacks
- Citrus and lavender oils are listed, alongside linalool and limonene. They add fragrance-allergy considerations; botanical scent can still be a drawback.
- At the observed £18 per 100 ml, it was over twice Caudalie’s UK unit price. A high price does not remove the scented oils or buy a named natural certification.

Our strongest combination is moisture-holding ingredients, no added fragrance and COSMOS NATURAL certification. That independent standard checks the formula’s natural-cosmetics credentials; it does not guarantee stronger hydration or that every ingredient is organic.
For the simplest buying decision, choose your deal-breaker first. Avoiding added perfume rules out Balea here. Avoiding ethanol rules out the checked alverde toner. Avoiding scented oils makes Dermalogica a poor fit. The same rule leaves our rose-water scent visible too.
If our combination fits, see the Hydrating Toner for the complete list and current price. Press it over the face after cleansing, avoiding the eyes, before serum or moisturiser. If your existing routine already leaves skin comfortable, keep the extra step optional.
