Choose our shampoo if you want a certified natural, vegan wash without silicones. Choose a silicone-containing formula if extra slip is what your hair needs. Paying a salon price only makes sense when the formula gives you something useful.
Good ingredients below means ingredients doing a useful job. Potential drawbacks means a reason that bottle might be wrong for you. The same rules apply to ours: it contains a sulfate cleanser and perfume.
Tap any linked ingredient name for its plain-English meaning in our ingredient glossary. The main benefit and drawback are explained here, so you do not need to leave the comparison first.
Shampoo ingredients: what helps and what to watch
CapyOnsen Moisturising Shampoo
Our pick for certified natural care without silicones, if you enjoy a scented wash.
Good ingredients
- Organic aloe juice leads the formula. Glycerin and sodium PCA help hold moisture; the manufacturer describes the shampoo as moisturising and smoothing.
- Lauryl glucoside and sodium coco-sulfate do the washing. You get a vegan formula with natural certification and 99% natural origin.
Potential drawbacks
- Sodium coco-sulfate is a sulfate. This bottle will not fit a sulfate-free routine.
- Perfume, linalool and limonene make it a poor choice if you have a known allergy to those fragrance ingredients.
Elvive Hydra Hyaluronic
A supermarket option for cleansing plus a smoother, more conditioned feel.
Good ingredients
- Sodium laureth sulfate washes away oil and dirt. Dimethicone and amodimethicone add conditioning slip, which can help with combing.
- The hyaluronic-acid name refers to sodium hyaluronate in the list, a water-binding ingredient within a broader cleansing and conditioning formula.
Potential drawbacks
- Contains sulfates and silicones, so skip it if either is outside your chosen routine. Too much silicone conditioning can leave fine hair feeling flat; judge the finished wash on your hair.
- Perfume is listed. A low price does not remove that drawback for someone avoiding scent.
alverde Feuchtigkeit
The budget choice here for certified natural, silicone-free hair care.
Good ingredients
- Lauryl glucoside and sodium coco-sulfate provide cleansing. Glycerin helps hold moisture.
- The dm page shows NATRUE certification and states vegan and silicone-free. Water leads the list, with aloe powder further down; ours starts with organic aloe juice.
Potential drawbacks
- Contains a sulfate and perfume. Natural certification does not remove either from the formula. If they are your reasons for changing shampoo, this bottle misses the brief.
Olaplex No. 4
Consider it for the brand’s bond-building approach, rather than assuming every salon wash is an upgrade.
Good ingredients
- Sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate is one of its cleansing ingredients. Amodimethicone supports a smoother feel and easier combing.
- Olaplex includes its named bond-building ingredient. That is a specific formulation reason to investigate beyond the salon label.
Potential drawbacks
- Contains silicone and perfume. Paying more does not buy their absence. At the observed £12 per 100 ml, decide whether its approach answers a need your current wash leaves unmet.
Oribe Gold Lust
A premium conditioning wash; a weak match if your goal is avoiding silicones or perfume.
Good ingredients
- Sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate helps cleanse. Dimethicone and amodimethicone help hair feel smoother, alongside the plant extracts.
Potential drawbacks
- Contains perfume and silicones. These matter if scent or a coating feel has bothered you before.
- The observed £23.20 per 100 ml was the highest UK figure here. Extra smoothing must be something you want enough to pay for; a long botanical list alone would not persuade us.

Our reason to choose CapyOnsen is the combination: organic aloe juice as the base, moisturising ingredients, a silicone-free formula and independent natural certification. COSMOS NATURAL checks a defined formulation standard; it does not measure which shampoo will work best on your hair.
If that sounds like your wash, the Moisturising Shampoo page has the complete list and current price. Check the fragrance and sulfate lines before adding it to your basket.
